Welcome to Postcards from the Edge

Greetings students, parents, interested onlookers and those who happened upon this corner of the web on accident!  Since we’re fixing to embark on a journey across these United States, we thought this would be a great way to keep those at home and elsewhere up to date on what we’re seeing, experiencing, learning and enjoying along the way!  Our hope is that you will find entries from both leaders and students over the course of this three week journey!

New Orleans Post-KatrinaThe first leg of our journey will take 30 junior high students and 5 adult leaders to New Orleans for the purpose of participating in the Katrina relief effort.  At this point, we have no idea what kind of work the week holds for us.  Last year, we did a lot of demolition preparing houses for refurbishing.  This year, there’s been a year’s worth of work done since our last stay so we have no idea what to expect.  It may be more demo or it could be more along the lines of rebuilding!  Regardless, we’re all looking forward to being a part of God is doing to rebuild the Gulf region!  The students and leaders have been meeting weekly for the past month to talk about the upcoming experience and pray for our time there.  We ask that you pray that God will use us in ways that we never could have imagined!  Check out Son Servants-NOLA here: #mce_temp_url#

Immediately following that week, 7 high school students and 5 adult leaders will be heading to the sunny beaches of South Padre Island for the Fun in the Son conference.  This conference is an annual occurrence at South Padre.  The mornings and evenings will be full of worship, drama, speakers, small groups, seminars and lots of fun!  The afternoons will be spent on the beach or around the island as we fellowship with each other and students from all over the country!  In the later evenings, there’s lots of aftermath and family time where we’ll be able to spend time together growing as a group. The final week of our journey will take 65 junior high students and 10 adult leaders on the Mystery Ramble to…. um…. er…. well…. Anchorage, Alaska!  We could tell you what all we’ll be doing, but that would totally defeat the concept of MR-08!  So, just keep visiting this blog to hear about our adventures from day to day! We ask for your prayers over the course of this journey.  We’re looking forward to a great time getting to invest lots of time in our students outside the comfort zone of their daily lives.  Pray that God will give us wisdom to respond to his Spirit moving in the lives of all of our students.  Pray that we will be able to minister to all of our students with love and grace and that they will continue to grow in their knowledge of Jesus Christ and his love for them.  Pray that our students would continue to see more and more about how the church cares about them simply because they are breathing!

Welcome to the journey…glad to have you along for the ride!!!
